Biography
Professor Charles Okechukwu Esimone is professor of Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Biotechnology in the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Nnamdi Azikiwe University and currently the Dean of the Faculty. He is an adept researcher with well over 100 publications with 15 years experience as a researcher and University lecturer. Current research interests cut across biopharmaceutics and pharmaceutical microbiology/biotechnology, including formulation of nanomedicines for vaccines, therapeutic and diagnostics purposes, formulation of herbal drugs for anti-infective, development and formulation of herbal vaccine adjuvants, development of recombinant malaria vaccines and drug discovery of novel antimicrobials from phytomedicines. He is recipient of the prestigious Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral Fellowship (2003-2005) to Bochum, Germany where he worked on the development of a recombinant viral vector-based approach for high-throughput screening of antiviral medicinal plants. In 2007, he was sponsored by the University of Nigeria to the University of Pittsburgh, USA for the Development of Recombinant Ad5-vectored Malaria Vaccine. He speaks English, French, German and Igbo languages fluently. He has been involved in several conferences, seminars and workshops where he has served either as a resource person or participant. He has successfully supervised over 25 postgraduate students. He is a reviewer to several national and international journals. He is member of several professional bodies including the American Society for Cell Biology, USA, the Society for Medicinal Plant Research, Germany, International Society for Anti-infective Pharmacology, Netherlands and Pan African Medical Mycology Society, South Africa.
