Biography
Brice Boris LEGBA is a postdoctoral researcher in microbiology at the University of Abomey-Calavi. He earned his Ph.D. in 2019 from the same university for his work on developing SALM-MTA, an antibacterial phytomedicine that was patented in 2024 with OAPI. His expertise spans antibacterial discovery and development, anti-infective strategies, and One Health-based interventions for infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance control. Dr. LEGBA has authored 42 scientific articles, presented 40 conference communications, and received 28 awards and distinctions, along with 25 research fellowships. He was recipient or co-recipient of 16 research/capacity-building projects. In 2022, he was honored with the Best Young Beninese Researcher Award by the National Academy of Sciences of Benin. On the community level, in 2016, he founded “229 Jeunes Scientifiques”, a scientific association promoting science and capacity building for young researchers in Benin. Through this initiative and various university-led projects, he has organized over 50 scientific events, reaching nearly 250,000 people in Benin and West Africa. Recognized for his leadership, Dr. LEGBA was named one of Benin’s Top 25 Young Leaders in 2020 (Young Leaders Program of Benin, Friedrich Ebert Foundation). He is also a fellow of the Africa Science Leadership Programme. Currently, Dr. LEGBA serves as a Young Ambassador for the American Society for Microbiology in Benin and as ambassador of the Next Einstein Forum in Benin. He is also a fellow of the AREF-MRC Towards Leadership Programme (Cohort 3).
