Biography
Dr. Syed Babar Jamal Bacha is a distinguished Bioinformatics Professor with 11 years of expertise in microbial genomics and computer-aided drug design. Currently serving at the National University of Medical Sciences (NUMS), Pakistan, he has been instrumental in curriculum development, student mentorship, and groundbreaking research in computational vaccine design.
A CNPq-TWAS Scholar, Dr. Bacha completed his PhD at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, pioneering research on genome-based drug target identification. His work has led to over 65 publications in high-impact international journals and has secured research funding exceeding 19 million PKR. His contributions to bioinformatics, antimicrobial resistance awareness, and STEM education have been widely recognized, earning him international awards and invitations to prestigious conferences.
As a policy advocate, he has played a key role in promoting indigenous plant conservation and science policy initiatives in Pakistan. Additionally, he is the Focal Person of the Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club at NUMS, driving sustainability projects.
Beyond academia, Dr. Bacha is a board member, reviewer, and consultant for multiple scientific bodies, contributing to research evaluation and policy formation. His dedication to bridging theoretical bioinformatics with real-world applications continues to shape the future of genomics-driven drug discovery and vaccine development.
