Biography
Dr. Anu Susan Sam is an Assistant Professor of Agricultural Economics at Kerala Agricultural University, Kerala, India. Dr. Sam earned her Ph.D. from Humboldt University, Berlin, Germany, supported by the prestigious German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) Scholarship. She holds an International Master in Rural Development (IMRD) from Gent University, Belgium, with an Erasmus Mundus Scholarship from the European Union. Additionally, she has a Master’s degree in Agricultural Economics from the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi, India, with a Junior Research Fellowship from the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) and an MPhil in Business Studies from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India.
Dr. Sam’s academic journey is enriched by her diverse experiences, including her role as a Research Scholar at the Leibniz Center for Agricultural Landscape Research (ZALF) Germany. She has also contributed her expertise as a Returning Expert in the German Corporation for International Cooperation GmbH (GIZ)-Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM) from 2019 to 2021.
With over a decade of research experience in agricultural economics, Dr. Sam focuses on critical areas such as climate change vulnerability, adaptation, food security, and rural societies. Her expertise extends to designing and implementing international education programs, and she has seamlessly integrated her skills into academic and research environments at both national and international levels. She is deeply involved in supervising the thesis work of postgraduate and doctoral students, nurturing the next generation of scholars in agricultural economics.
Dr. Sam’s commitment to advancing agricultural practices extends beyond academia. She actively engages in extension activities, liaising between farmers, relevant university scientists, and experts. She facilitates knowledge exchange and advocates for farmers’ needs within academia. By identifying key research issues directly from the field, she ensures that challenges faced by farmers are effectively addressed through research and practical application.
