Biography
Dr. Nunez-Parra is an assistant professor at the Faculty of Science of Universidad de Chile, Chile and the Principal investigator of the integrative neuroscience core at the Physiology Laboratory.
She holds a PhD degree in Neuroscience and Cognitive Sciences from University of Maryland and was a postdoctoral research fellow at University of Colorado, USA.
Her main research line seeks to understand how neuronal circuits process sensory information and how neuronal coding is altered in neuropathologies. Her laboratory is currently focusing on studying the neurobiological basis of hyperreactivity in a model of Autism Spectrum Disorder. She holds several international collaborations and is a member of Global Consortium for Chemosensory Research (CGGR).
She is also strongly involved in science education and is the director and creator of the „Getting to know your brain” initiative, a program that builds educational tools to promote neuroliteracy in early childhood. She is also the co-Director of NeuroFest: the Brain Fair, a community-facing neuroscience outreach event that promotes neuro‑literacy through talks, hands‑on activities, exhibits, and art.
Dr. Nunez-Parra is currently the President of the Chilean Neuroscience Society.
