Ankur Gupta

Biography

Dr. Ankur Gupta is currently serving as Dean of International Relations at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur, India. He is an Associate Professor in the Mechanical Engineering Department at IIT Jodhpur. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kanpur, India and served as a faculty at IIT Bhubaneswar afterwards before joining IIT Jodhpur in 2019. He has over 200 research contributions to his credit including peer reviewed international journal papers, patents, conference proceedings and books/book chapters. He has supervised 08 IIT PhD students and over 25 Masters’ projects. He has also developed “Microtechnology Lab” at IIT Jodhpur. He recently received the “Institute Research Excellence Award 2025” and “Senior Researcher Award (Engineering) 2025”. He has also received “Young Researcher Award (Engineering) 2024” by IIT Jodhpur, “Institute of Smart Structures and Systems (ISSS) Young Scientist Award 2022” and was elected for “Indian National Young Academy of Sciences (INYAS) membership 2023” in “Engineering Sciences” category by INYAS, which is recognized scientific body under the Indian National Science Academy (INSA). Dr. Gupta was also selected as “BRICS Young Scientist” by the Department of Science and Technology, India, to participate in the Second BRICS Young Scientist Conclave held at Zhejiang University, China, in 2017. He is also a recipient of the ISEES Young Scientist Award (2017), IEI Young Engineer Award (2019–20) from the Institution of Engineers (India) in the production division, and SERB International Research Experience (SIRE) Fellowship Award (2022) for a research visit at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Germany and Scientific high level visiting fellowship sponsored by French Embassy (2023) to visit UTT France. His research interest is to explore innovative and inexpensive fabrication methods for microsystems for wide range of applications. To take research to next level, he has founded startup “Integrated Microsystems & Engineering Technology Pvt Ltd. At IIT Jodhpur, he has undertaken key administrative responsibilities alongside his teaching role in Manufacturing Engineering domain. Currently serving as Dean of International Relations, he has been instrumental in assisting institutional governance and formulating internationalization strategies. He led several policy-level initiatives that significantly improved the Institute’s global engagement, strengthened research/academic collaborations, and increased international student admissions. As salient accomplishments, he formulated direct admission policy for international students, endowment framework for inbound and outbound students, and initiated joint degree programs with various foreign institutes.
