Biography
Dr. Assia Aboubakar Mahamat holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, Master’s, and Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the African University of Science and Technology. She was awarded the L’Oréal-UNESCO for women in science young talent prize for her post-doctoral research in 2022. She is an active member of numerous international and national professional societies, including the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD), American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM), Réunion Internationale des Laboratoires et Experts des Matériaux, systèmes de construction et ouvrages (RILEM), European Alliance for innovation (EAI), and African Materials Research Society (AMRS).
Currently, Dr. Assia Aboubakar Mahamat serves as lecturer in the civil engineering department at the Ecole Nationale Supèrieure des Travaux Publics (ENSTP), Chad and the African University of Science and Technology (AUST), Abuja. With intensive experience in the private sector and the academia she developed expertise in developing sustainable construction materials from plastics and agro-waste. She is building expertise in applying Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques in forecasting and developing these sustainable construction materials. Under her guidance, numerous MSc and undergraduate students successfully completed their master’s and postgraduate program.
Dr. Assia Aboubakar Mahamat has made a significant contribution to the scientific community as an editorial board member and reviewer for various high-impact international journals, including those published by Springer nature, MDPI, and Elsevier. She has published over 25 research articles in top-tier international journals indexed in Springer nature, Scopus, Web of science and other renowned databases. She has presented many research at many international conferences and has been recognized with awards from prestigious organizations for her contributions to the field. She has initiated many outreaches program for inspiring girls/women to build Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based career. She founded and co-founded the Empowering Women and Children Initiative and the Care for her initiatives which aim at empowering girls/women to build career in STEM and overcoming body shaming to build a strong self confidence respectively.
