Terms and conditions

  1. By entering the competition, you hereby accept these terms and conditions
    • The competition is free to enter.
    • The competition is open to all current members of a National Young Academy or the Global Young Academy.
    • Entries must be submitted by 23 March 2018 5pm GMT.
    • By entering the photo competition, you agree and acknowledge that the organisers are permitted to receive your registration data.
  1. To enter you must upload your image(s) via the following website: https://globalyoungacademy.net/nyaphotocompetition/
    • All photographs must have a resolution of at least 300×300 ppi, 5 MB max, and must be submitted in RGB, B/W, or grey scale as jpeg files only.
    • Photographs submitted must be connected to the research of the scholar participating.
    • All entries must be submitted with a title and a short description of its content and its ‘fascination’ (150 words max). Incomplete entries will not be considered.
    • Photographs that have been submitted as part of any other context or have already won awards in any other contexts cannot be considered and may not be submitted.
  1. Entries will be judged between 24 March and 20 April 2018
    • Winners will be notified by email by end-April 2018.
    • The decision of the jury is final and no negotiation will be entered into with respect to any such decision.
    • Each participant can submit up to two images. Images will be judged individually: submitting two photographs as a series is not possible.
  1. The Young Academies reserve the right to disqualify and remove any photograph that does not comply with the following requirements, even after the entry is submitted on the website. You warrant and represent, in respect of each entry you submitted as follows:
    • You are the sole owner and author of the photograph(s) submitted.
    • You have the right to make your entry available to the competition.
    • You agree to participate in related publicity and to the use of your name and submitted photograph(s) for the purposes of advertising, promotion and publicity without compensation.
    • Each entry does not contain personally identifiable information about you or any other person(s), unless you have obtained permission from them to submit and publish the photo.
    • Photographs submitted do not contain any infringing, threatening, abusive, harassing, libellous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, scandalous, pornographic or profane content. They do not contain any material that give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any law.
    • Photographs submitted do not infringe upon the copyrights, trademarks, contract rights, or any other intellectual property rights of any third person or entity, or violate any person’s rights of privacy or publicity.
  1. The Young Academies recognise that you, the author of the image, retain full ownership of the copyright in each submission.
  1. All participants understand that any image submitted to the competition may be used by the Young Academies for marketing and promotional purposes. You hereby grant the Young Academies a non-exclusive, irrevocable licence in each entry throughout the world in all media for any use connected to the promotion of the photo competition, including, but not limited to:
    • judging the competition;
    • displaying the winning entries and runners up at public exhibitions promoting the photo contest of the young academies;
    • inclusion within the website, a brochure, magazine or similar;
    • inclusion within any materials promoting the competition and / or any exhibition organised by the young academies;
    • sub-licencing the submissions to the press for reproduction in connection with the competition and any exhibition;
    • allowing viewers of the website to view images on a computer screen, PDA or smartphone and store such pages in electronic form on disk or on a PDA or mobile telephone (but not on any server or other storage device connected to a network) for their personal, non-commercial use only.
  1. The Young Academies assume no responsibility for any incorrect, inaccurate or incomplete information, whether caused by website users or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilised in the competition, and assume no responsibility for technical, hardware or software failure of any kind, for lost network connections, garbled computer transmissions, other problems or technical malfunctions with regard to the competition. The Young Academies assume no responsibility for any error, omission, corruption, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorised access to or alteration of photograph. If for any reason a participant’s entry cannot be viewed, including infection by computer viruses, bugs, tampering, unauthorised intervention, fraud or technical failures, the Young Academies assume no responsibility.
  1. In no event will the Young Academies be responsible or liable for any damages or losses of any kind, including direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special or punitive damages arising out of any participant’s access to and use of the website.
