Biography
Dr. Chan is a Reader at the Centre for Global Health Research at the University of Edinburgh, holding a PhD in international public health, a Bachelor and a Masters degree in social sciences. My research focuses on policy issues relating to health systems reform and non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), and health research priority setting. This includes studies that investigated the changing burden of NCDs including dementia, COPD, asthma in China and Africa, and the impact of some of China’s recent health systems and policy reform (e.g. hospital payment reforms) on health care accessibility and affordability for people with chronic NCDs.
I am also an Honoary Associate Professor at the Nossal Institute for Global Health at the University of Melbourne (Australia), and a Visiting Scholar at Peking Universith Health Sciences Centre (China).
